Laborer's International Union of North America - Local 894 Scholarship Program

PURPOSE To assist graduating high school seniors, who are sons and daughters of members of LIUNA – Local 894, and who meet specific criteria, finance their education.
ELIGIBILITY
- Student applicants must be sons or daughters of a member in good standing of LIUNA – Local 894.
- Students selected to receive awards for this scholarship must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 upon graduation from high school.
- Students selected for this scholarship should follow a full-time college course of study or major in an accredited Pell-eligible four-year college or university, two-year community college or vocational/technical school.
- Parent employed by the LIUNA – Local 894 must be working at the calling and must have two years of continuous membership in good standing with the local as of January 1, 2010.
- Children of union officers and staff are not eligible.
Factors that will be considered in selecting the winners
- Those who have displayed academic achievement, leadership in voluntary community service and/or job/work record.
- Scholarships will be awarded based on the applicant’s scholastic record and class standing, results of college admittance tests such as the ACT and SAT, recommendations from individuals familiar with the applicant, extracurricular activities, community service, or work experience.
- Financial need will not be a consideration.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARD LIUNA – Local 894 will award up to ten (10), $1,000 non-renewable scholarships for academic year 2010-2011. The $1,000 scholarship awards will be disbursed at the beginning of the academic year.
