Scholarship Guidelines

  • Age 19 or older as of September 1, 2010
  • Must have graduated from high school or have successfully earned their G.E.D.
  • Must have interrupted their education for at least one year since high school graduation or during college.
  • Must be a resident of Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit or Trumbull County.
  • Pursuing a non-degree certificate or license in a vocational or technical program that is 3 months to 2 years in length, a first associate’s degree or first bachelor’s degree in an eligible two or four-year program. Individuals already having obtained a bachelor’s degree are not eligible.
  • Enroll at least half-time (six or more credit hours) per term in a Pell-eligible degree-seeking program for the 2010-2011 academic year.
  • Applicants must have earned a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average (either high school or post-secondary) if the applicant has been enrolled in school (high school or post-secondary) within the past five years.

Required Application Materials

  • Applicants must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form and submit the 2010-2011 Student Aid Report (SAR). For information and to complete the FAFSA form, please visit www.fafsa.ed.gov or feel free to visit the Cleveland Scholarship Programs Resource Center for assistance.
  • Applicants must submit a 2010-2011 financial aid award letter from the college or university they are attending/plan to attend.
  • Applicants must submit a typed essay of 500 words or less explaining the circumstances that led them to return to school as an adult, and the reasons for choosing the area of study (submitted on a separate sheet of paper).
  • Applicants must submit unofficial undergraduate transcript or the most current grade report from any college or university attended in the past five years.ü Applicants must submit high school transcript or GED certificate.
  • Applicants planning to enroll in a non-degree certificate program must submit a copy of official registration.ü Applicants must be eligible to receive Federal Financial Aid as a Legal U.S. Citizen or Registered Alien.
