Michelle Millar

High School: Cleveland Heights

Currently Attending: Ohio State University

Future Plans: A successful career as an auditor.

“So far, the accomplishment I am most proud of is going to college and doing so well in my first two years. I am a first generation college student so it means a lot to my family. And I can say that I am truly taking advantage of all the opportunities college has to offer. I have gotten very involved with student organizations, done community service, gone to leadership conferences and even studied abroad. I really think I’ve learned more outside the classroom than I have inside. So, I am proud of myself for making my family proud and doing things I never thought I would get to do so soon.”

What would you tell others about CSP? I would greatly encourage high school students to get involved and take advantage of such an amazing resource. They should be involved with CSP if they need it. For example, first generation college students and anyone who needs a little extra help preparing for college definitely should look into it.

Phoebe Woname

High School: Collinwood

Currently Attending: John Carroll University

Future Plans: To run a camp to build self esteem in young people and travel and teach English in another country, perhaps as a Fulbright Scholar.

“I want to change one person’s life. Whether that is through my Industrial Psychology degree or my English degree, I can’t wait. I hope to one day give back to those who have helped me, those who can’t help themselves and those who could be doing more.”

How has CSP made a difference in your life? CSP has helped me achieve greater heights. The scholarship interviewers are warm and the counsel they administer is never intrusive and quite thorough, they go beyond their duties to ensure that we receive the most and best financial aid package available. Just this last interview, it self and reaped rich rewards. Also the surveys about school are thought provoking, to ask questions about the preparedness of my high school education for college has been beneficial. It has helped me to think about the real life occurrences that have shaped my learning and study habits now.

Becky DiOrio

High School: Holy Name

Currently Attending: Case Western Reserve University

Future Plans: To graduate from Case with degrees in sociology and anthropology and go on to earn a masters degree in public health, to travel the world, and have a family and to study abroad in Sydney, Australia, next school year.

“Financing school has always been a problem that I have faced. My mother lost her job when I was a sophomore in high school, and I was unsure if I would still be able to attend high school at Holy Name in Parma. Financing college was something I couldn’t bring myself to think of at that time. I continued to work hard in school, despite the economic difficulties, and was able to not only receive a scholarship from the Cleveland Scholarships Program, but also a scholarship from Case Western Reserve University, the college that I currently attend.”

What do you like best about CSP? I like that CSP believes in students from the greater Cleveland area despite the economic and environmental challenges students often face. They give hope to people who are in difficult situations and make their services accessible and valuable to any who is interested. I have always felt that someone believed in me and my abilities, without letting my lack of economic wealth hold me back.

Joseph Colini

Currently Attending: Tri-C

Future Plans: To become an optician and make glasses for those in need.

“The one accomplishment I am most proud of is being a father.”

Why should people get involved with CSP? Take advantage of the help available so that in the future you will be able to help others. Everyone can use a helping hand every now and again and CSP is a helping hand.

Mona Mustafa

High School: Lakewood

Currently Attending: John Carroll University

Future Plans: To practice international law.

“Love plays a crucial role in how confident a child is in achieving anything they place their imagination. This is a great determining factor whether the child will follow their dreams. I never want to lose the ambition which I have been raised with, and I try to not be discouraged by those who tell me I can’t, it just makes me want to achieve what I want even more. As people get older they lose the ambition they once had as a child and this is one thing I want to keep as old as I get. I know that I can do anything I put my mind to.”

What do you like most about CSP? What I like most is that I have stayed in touch with CSP over the years because they genuinely care about their students. As of high school graduation, I have stayed in touch with Jimmy Malone, who is my specific mentor through CSP. I am grateful for having such a wonderful organization help me through the most important years of my life.
