The Cleveland Browns Marion Motley Scholarship Program is an exciting opportunity for a motivated student whose long-term career goal includes working for a professional sports organization in any of a variety of capacities. Two students will be selected to receive a four-year renewable college scholarship of $2,500 per year.

The Cleveland Browns Marion Motley Scholarship is available to students who:

  • Earned a 2.5 cumulative grade point average
  • Scored a minimum of 18 on the ACT or an 860 on the math and verbal portions of the SAT. *The ACT or SAT must be taken by end of October 2009
  • Meet specific income guidelines based on the Parent’s Adjusted Gross Income (AGI)
  • Are currently enrolled in a high school located in Northeast Ohio
  • Will graduate from high school at the end of the 2010 academic year
  • Plan to enroll in college in 2010-2011
  • Plan to major in areas that would lead to a career working for a professional sports organization, such as: business, accounting, finance, human resources, information technology, communications, journalism, public relations, sports management, marketing/advertising, kinesiology or exercise science, event management.

The income guidelines are based on the Parent’s Adjusted Gross Income (AGI):

Emphasis will be placed on the ability to clearly articulate academic and career goals, students who are the first or second generation in their family to attend college, service to the community, maturity and motivation. (Student-athletes are welcome to participate; however, this is not a pre-requisite for applying.)

THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS ARE REQUIRED TO APPLY:

  • Complete Cleveland Browns Marion Motley Scholarship application
  • Official copy of high school transcript showing cumulative grade point average through the end of junior year (Note: senior year grades will be required before final selections are made.)
  • Copy of SAT or ACT scores (Note: scores on an official high school transcript are acceptable, but copies of the report from the testing agency are preferred. Only test scores through October 2009 will be accepted.)
  • Copy of 2008 tax forms for student and parent(s); either 1040, 1040A or 1040EZ. If taxes were not filed, copies of 2008 W-2 form(s) required. (Note: a copy of the 2010 FAFSA will be required before final selections are made.
  • Essays (two are required; questions on application)
  • Extracurricular resume or list of activities
  • (Optional) Letter of recommendation from a teacher or other adult (non-relative) who knows you well

Incomplete applications will not be accepted.  All applications must be receieved on or before October 23, 2009.
